Mission Statement

At Little Stars Montessori Kindergarten we strive to provide an environment where the children work in a fellowship that allows freedom of movement and freedom of choice.
We promise to provide classroom environments that encompass a multicultural curriculum that will enhance each child’s academic experience. The materials designed for the program are aesthetically pleasing and enjoyable. Our goal is to give the students the gift of education and the love of learning which will last a lifetime.
We promise to continue teaching with an environment that is open for exploration, communication, academically and emotionally enriching, and a warm and loving place for both the children and their families.

The Montessori Philosophy

Montessori is an educational philosophy created by Dr. Maria Montessori, Italy’s first female physician. Dr. Montessori initially worked with children in her medical practice and in 1906 developed a new method of education. Using extensive observations of children, Dr. Montessori created a system and materials based on a child’s innate desire to learn. Maria Montessori believed the early years of a child’s life to be most important for developing a child’s intelligence.

In a Montessori environment, children have the opportunity to learn by exploring topics that capture their interest/imagination and share them with their classmates. Montessori classes incorporate math, language, practical life, sensorial, and creative studies throughout the curriculum. This develops a passion for learning in children. There is also a strong emphasis on geographical study and multi-cultural education — developing a respect for cultural diversity and a global perspective. The holistic Montessori approach is tailored to instill in children, confidence, self-awareness, independence, care of self, care of the environment, and social grace.

How Does Montessori Work?

Entering the classroom, you will immediately notice a calm but busy atmosphere, where the children are involved in small group or individual activities. The materials they work with are all materials designed by Maria Montessori, to develop the child’s concentration, coordination, and independence. The children are given freedom within a structured environment to choose activities that interest them, and to work with the materials for as long as they need. It is of vital importance to support the need for each child to develop their learning at their own individual pace. Our Montessori teachers closely observe each child, kindly and gently directing them in their learning rather than entertaining them or telling them what to do. When a teacher notices an interest awakening in the child, she introduces him to an activity that will satisfy his/her learning desire

Nothing in our classroom is there by accident; every activity is there for a reason and has a specific purpose.
Specially designed Montessori activities aid the child’s development of their sensory, numeric, language, scientific, and practical skills.
All Montessori activities require the child to be active, or ‘hands-on’.
At Little Stars we encourage our children to be independent and to take initiative.

Our children do not need rewards or stickers, they develop their self-esteem and self-respect naturally, and children who feel self-respect, naturally learn to respect others as well.

  • Children are assigned a chair; expected to sit at a desk and listen to group lessons. At times they might be able to move as instructed by their teacher
